SUMMARY:ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND SOLAR PV TECHNOLOGY IN AGRICULTURE
DESCRIPTION:At a national level we need to improve our energy security by reducing our dependence on imported fossil fuels. At an independent farm level, an investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy can both reduce the high cost of energy inputs and provide an additional source of income for the business. It will improve the green credentials of our production which is of increasing importance in the market place.\nIn farming, energy costs may only represent a small percentage of turnover, but reducing them can directly increase profits and competitiveness. There are opportunities for increased efficiencies in the pig, poultry, dairy and horticultural sectors together with options for the deployment of solar PV.\nTeagasc will run a half day workshop on Wednesday, 23rd March from 10am – 1pm on energy efficient technologies and solar PV options relevant to the agricultural sector.\nWednesday, 23rd March 2022 | 10am – 1pm\nTeagasc Ashtown Food Research Centre, Dublin 15. D15 DY05\n \nAgenda\n• Introduction to Energy Efficiency and Solar PV technology in Agriculture Barry Caslin – Teagasc\n• BiOrbic Farm Zero Project Gavin Hunt – Farm Zero C Project Manager, BiOrbic\n• Energy efficient options in Agriculture David Mulhall – Irish Dairy Services, Technical Advisor Skov\n• How to Monitor Your On-Farm Electricity Usage and Sub-meter Paul Mahon – Watt Footprint\n• SEAI Energy Training and Supports for SME’s Julie Farrelly/Sara Norris – SEAI SME (SEAI Business and Industry)\n• The role of Solar PV in Irish Agriculture Pat Smith – Local Power\nFollowed by discussion and refreshments\nMore information ( https://www.agrofossilfree.eu/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Energy-Efficiency-and-Solar-PV-technology-in-Agriculture-flyer.pdf )\n
